The Dutch parade artists of Circolation win INTERNATIONAL AWARD in Macau, the Las Vegas of China
Last Sunday, the artists of the circus parade Circolation performed in the grand International Parade of Macao (China). In a very big parade of 1,600 performers spread across 57 groups, the troupe marched through the streets of the 'Las Vegas of China'. They were awarded by a professional jury during the international parade in Macao and are the winners of the “Best Costume Award”.

Many tens of thousands of visitors lined up in thick rows just to catch a glimpse of the large international parade in Macao in which Circolation participated and get an award as winner of the Best costumes. With jugglers, unicyclists, dancers, and acrobats in a large acrowheel, Circolation generated a great deal of cheering from the crowd. “ Walking in such a huge parade with such an incredible crowd gives a massive kick ,” said founder and performing artist Jori Veldhuizen.

Together with his wife Vera, Jori has developed several parade groups. With their company “Circo di Strada”, they have been touring the world for 10 years now, amazing spectators everywhere. “ Receiving an international award for the best costumes is truly the crowning achievement of our work. I still can't believe what happened yesterday. We were in the line-up alongside many 'greats' within the street theatre/parade world. I have so much admiration for these groups, and the fact that we get to receive an award is far beyond expectations ,” said Veldhuizen.

In the run-up to the major international parade, the performers from Zoetermeer also played at a number of iconic locations in Macau. Macau is not called the Las Vegas of China for nothing: a large part of the Las Vegas Strip, such as the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, and The Venetian, is also located in Macau. The troupe also performed at this last magnificent casino to promote the parade. A performance with a literally golden touch.

It was not the first time Jori and Vera performed in Macau with their team. In 2019, they were guests with a different act during the Chinese New Year Parade, another world-class procession. Previously, they have also had the opportunity to perform in Hong Kong, Dubai, at Formula 1 in Bahrain, and at various major events in Europe, among others. This coming Wednesday morning, April 1, the artists will land back at Schiphol and focus on performances in Belgium and France during the Easter weekend.
